HDPS is a well-established Canterbury owned and operated company with its origins dating back to 1997. Andrew Bulman started what was called AB Mechanical Services in 1997 working out of the back of his ute with his dog Bogart. After a period of time, AB Mechanical Services utilised and worked out of a Workshop in Bromley before building and occupying a custom-built workshop in Hillsborough.

In 2007 a branch was formed in Dunsandel as a satellite workshop to support the growing fleet of Milk Tankers at the Synlait Dairy operation

The business had a name change in 2007 To Heavy Diesel Parts and Services.

In 2009 HDPS purchased the Cummins Engine Company in Christchurch. This resulted in both HDPS Christchurch and Timaru becoming Cummins Master Dealers in the respective regions which remains today.

In 2018, HDPS Engineering was formed. This was initially started to support the final builds of a large number of new Kenworth and DAF trucks being purchased. From 5th wheels, to lights, to chrome bling, the Engineering team do it all. Recently the Engineering business has put a mobile vehicle on the road to support our customers Engineering needs on their own site

Due to an ever-increasing workload, a second site was established in Timaru in 2022. This site features a 4 bay workshop and is a COF compliant site. This site - adjacent to State Highway 1 - offers easy access for vehicles whilst still enjoying the HDPS backing of competent technicians and well-equipped workshops.

At the end of 2023, HDPS ventured to the West Coast of the South Island. HDPS has a full service and repair workshop in Westport to support the ever growing fleets of vehicles working on the coast and also in the “off – highway” sector. HDPS Westport is a full Kenworth, DAF and Cummins franchise dealer
